Cadet Corps
Military Science/California Cadet Corps
The MISSION of the California Cadet Corps (CACC) at Cobalt Middle School is to provide students with quality education and a sound and proven leadership development program that prepares students for success in high school, college, and the work force. This mission is accomplished through the six core OBJECTIVES of the California Cadet Corps:
To develop Leadership.
To engender Citizenship.
To encourage Patriotism.
To foster Academic Excellence.
To teach Basic Military Knowledge.
To promote Health, Fitness, and Wellness.
These objectives are not just subjects taught from a traditional perspective. The students learn about leadership while in leadership positions, performing the required tasks in various staff and command responsibilities. They participate in various civic activities and perform patriotic duties such as flag raising, color guards, drill teams, and parades. They are given both written assessments and practical evaluations, in a variety of subjects which include, but not limited to history, language arts, critical thinking, cultural awareness, creative writing, and various other CTA Standard courses. But the teaching doesn’t stop at the classroom. CACC teaches Basic Military Knowledge and this includes map reading and orienteering skills, first aid and CPR, wilderness survival, along with a variety of other team building skills. These courses take place outside the classroom while in a field environment; bivouac (camp-outs), Survival Schools/Training, Leadership Training Schools, Orienteering Courses… The student is also required to wear and maintain an issued uniform, providing them with value and dignity, promoting strong team-spirit and self-esteem. Although the CACC is militarily structured, the benefits are not limited to the military or public safety/service career. The experience a student can receive as a member of the CACC will last them a life time, preparing them for any leadership role in any position found in the work force today. Talk to your counselor, sign up today and give the CACC a try. Our motto, after all is “ESSYONS”, a French word that means “Let us try.”
